What we know about you

This page is for you, not for grown-ups. It says what Arcadia knows about you and what you are allowed to ask for. There is a longer version for parents here.

Who looks after Arcadia

Eris. That's it — one person. Eris made this server, looks after it, and is the person to tell if anything goes wrong.

What Arcadia knows about you

  • Your first name, and the first letter of your last name.
  • Your club username and your password. Eris cannot see your password — the computer scrambles it so nobody can read it, even Eris.
  • Your Minecraft name, so you can be let into the worlds.
  • Whether you are under 13 or older. This is so the club sets things up in the safest way for you. We do not know your birthday.
  • Everything you make here — your builds, your Scratch games, your Python drawings, your pixel art.
  • What you type in the club chat.
  • Boring computer stuff, like what time you logged in.

What Arcadia does NOT know about you

  • Where you live.
  • Your phone number.
  • Your real email address.
  • Your school.
  • Anything about your health, or anything a doctor or your school knows about you.
  • What you do on the internet when you are not in Arcadia. We honestly cannot see that.

Two things it is fair for you to know

1. Eris can read the club chat. All of it, including messages from a while ago. That is on purpose. If somebody is mean to you, it means Eris can go back and check, instead of it being your word against theirs.

2. Talking out loud is not recorded. When you are in a voice room, nothing is saved. Nobody can play it back later. But that also means that if somebody says something horrible in voice, the only way Eris will know is if you tell them.

Who else sees your stuff

Almost nobody.

  • Other club members see what you post in the chat and what you build in a shared world. That's the point of a club.
  • The computer company that rents Eris the server is in Germany. They keep the machine running and do not look at your things.
  • A copy of everything is saved in France every night, in case the server breaks. It is locked with a code before it is sent, so the company there cannot read any of it.
  • Nobody buys or sells anything about you. There are no adverts here and nothing is watching you to guess what you like.

Things you are allowed to ask for

These are your rights. You do not have to be polite about it and you cannot get in trouble for asking.

  • "Show me everything you know about me." We have to show you.
  • "That's wrong — fix it." We have to fix it.
  • "Delete it." Usually we have to do that too.
  • "Give me my stuff." You can have your games, your code and your world to keep.
  • "I don't want to do voice any more." Fine. Nobody has to talk out loud, ever.
  • "Don't put my project on the website." Fine. It only ever goes up if you and your parent both said yes, and you can change your mind later.

Just ask Eris, or email ErisTaylor@cognitocoding.com. We answer within a month, usually much faster.

If something feels wrong

Tell Eris. Straight away. Even if you are not sure. Even if you think you might have broken a rule yourself — you will not be in trouble for telling.

If you would rather talk to somebody who is not in the club at all, you can ring Childline on 0800 1111, any time of day or night, about anything. It is free, and it does not show up on the phone bill. You do not have to tell us that you rang them.
